Volunteers Deliver Thanksgiving  Meals to Our Seniors. 

Congregate Meals

PURPOSE

Congregate Meals are designed to maintain and improve the physical and social well-being of  older adults, age 60 and older, through appropriate nutrition services in a group setting.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

Participants are served one noon time meal per day at our senior center in a congregate setting. The group setting provides opportunities for socialization and companionship. It also offers programs related to nutrition education, exercise activities, health promotion and disease prevention. Transportation is available for those who have trouble getting around on their own.

  • Monthly calendar of daily menu selection is provided to seniors
  • All meals prepared meet USDA dietary guidelines, including special diets
  • Participants also participate in a variety of group activities

Elderly Transportation

PURPOSE

The Northside Transportation Program  provides safe, dependable and effective transportation for  elderly residents of the City of St. Louis. The  service provides mobility necessary to improve the quality of life of residents to enable them to remain living independently.


DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

The Senior Transportation Program provides friendly, reliable, door-to-door transit service to seniors 60 yrs and older and persons with disabilities (18- 59 yrs) living in the City of
​St. Louis. 
  • Over 90% of the trips are for medical visits
  • Transports residents for shopping, personal, group and social activities  within the City of St. Louis
     only
  • Appointments required
  • Hours of operation: 8 AM - 4 PM Mon-Fri

Meals On Wheels

PURPOSE

Providing a daily hot meal and hope to the
home-bound elderly in St. Louis.
 

ELIGIBILITY
  • Individual must be 60 years of age or older.
  • Home-bound as a result of physical or mental disabilities.
  • Unable to prepare meals on their own and have no one available to prepare meals for them.
  • The spouse of a home-bound senior.
  • A handicapped non-elderly person who is a member of a household with an elderly person. 
  • Complete a Home Delivered Meals Assessment with staff.

Who we serve?
  • 100% are physically challenged
  • 97% have an annual income of less than $7,500
  • 98% live alone
  • 83% are over the age of 75
  • 72% are females

How we serve?
  • Nearly 300 meals a day are packaged and delivered
  • A noon time meal is delivered Monday through Friday
  • We offer low sodium, diabetic and other special dietary needs
  • 28 volunteers assisted with the delivery of meals throughout the year

Why we serve?
  • To protect the well being of a vulnerable population in St. Louis
  • Our efforts honor the generation that provided for our future
  • Food is a basic human need 
  • Because we can, want to and should and are able to help

What can I do?
  • $25 will provide a week's worth of meals
  • 2 hours per day is enough time to assist with meal delivery
  • Support legislation that addresses hunger and poverty
This activity is financed (in part) (wholly) through an allocation of HOME funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the City of St. Louis' Community Development Administration. ​
